Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Dec. 31.

With 2018 at a close, the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce (KKCC) would like to thank you, our members, for your support during a memorable year as we celebrated our 50th Anniversary! Throughout the year, we highlighted this significant milestone at our events and expos, culminating in our 50th Anniversary Gala – a true celebration that honored our past while embracing the present and looking toward the bright future of West Hawaii’s business community.

A year ago, we distributed a very special commemorative edition of The Source 2018, our annual business magazine and member directory. In the feature article “A Half-Century of Business Advocacy,” we interviewed a series of past chamber leaders to remind ourselves of key initiatives championed by our organization over five decades. This article is on our website atwww.kona-kohala.com/chamber-history.

With a solid foundation of our organization’s history, we now turn our attention to the future. Be on the lookout for your copy of The Source 2019 that will be sent to you by mail in January. In this year’s feature article, “Sustainability + Stewardship: Growing West Hawaiʻi’s Economy,” we explore current economic trends while discovering future plans of key stakeholders in our business community.

This article reveals a glimpse of our chamber’s Future Focus Initiative – a two-year project aimed at answering the question, “What will we do as a business community for the next 50 years?” We’ve formed a new KKCC Young Professionals Leadership Council tasked with developing the details of this project such as drafting questionnaires, conducting interviews and executing a Future Focus Summit event in October 2019!

We will continue to offer our popular annual KKCC events throughout 2019 including the Hawaiʻi Island Living & Design Expo, Luncheon with Hawaiʻi County Leadership, Career Expo, Kuleana Green Business Fair, Golf Tournament, Membership and Installation Luncheon with Pualu Awards, Business Expos and Hawaiʻi Employment Law Seminar. New this year, we’ve added a Health & Wellness Expo in September 2019. All of this plus AfterHours – our chamber’s premier monthly networking event. Please see the 2019 KKCC Event Calendar at www.kona-kohala.com/annual-event-calendar.

The Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce exists to provide leadership and advocacy for a successful business environment in West Hawaiʻi. Our 2019 priorities are now published on our website at www.kona-kohala.com/chamber-priorities. Advocacy efforts begin in January with a trip to the Hawaiʻi State Capitol to visit Governor Ige and state legislators. We will continue to represent business interest throughout the 2019 legislative session.

We greatly appreciate your dedication and commitment to our organization as we work together to strengthen our local economy and promote our community. We are looking forward to a productive and purposeful 2019!

Sincerely,

Wendy J. Laros, M.Ed.

Executive Director, Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce
